What It Is
The ODIDA Tree Guard Program helps businesses and property owners install durable, custom tree guards that protect plantings and keep sidewalk beds looking great—all while creating a cohesive look throughout the district.
Why It Matters
- Protect your investment – Powder-coated steel guards reduce damage to trees and plantings.
- Enhance curb appeal – A cleaner, more polished frontage invites customers and visitors.
- Create consistency – A uniform design strengthens the Downtown experience block to block.
- Pre-approved & hassle-free – ODIDA worked with City Planning and the Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission; no additional permits are required for the approved design.

Program Status & Costs
2025 Subsidy: Closed. This year’s subsidy budget has been fully allocated.
- Typical pricing (for reference): ~$60/linear ft (pilot pricing was ~$84/ft).
- Example: a typical 4’×4’ bed ≈ $960 before subsidy.
- With past ODIDA subsidy, many beds landed around $560.
