Breathing new life into Downtown Omaha’s sidewalks and streetscapes
At a Glance: 60+ beds replanted and mulched • 816 plants added • $50,000 total project cost • $15,000 in grant support
About the Project
In summer 2022, ODIDA replanted more than 60 flowerbeds across Downtown, adding 800+ plants to refresh and brighten the district. This was the first full planting season for ODIDA’s dedicated gardener, Megan Neve, who coordinated contractors to bring color, shade, and resilience back to our urban core.
What We Planted
A native-forward, urban-tough palette for long-term resilience: Catmint (167), Little Bluestem (124), Veronica (114), plus Switchgrass, Prairie Dropseed, Redtwig Dogwood, Goldenrod, and more. The mix means less replanting, stronger roots, and a greener downtown year-round.

Tools for the Future: Green Inventory Map
Every flowerbed and tree in the district is cataloged in ODIDA’s online Green Inventory Map. See what’s planted in each bed, who’s responsible for upkeep (ODIDA, City, or adjacent property owner), and which sites may need new planting—or hardscape where planting isn’t sustainable.
