Downtown Omaha thrives when our residents, employees, and visitors feel comfortable and confident.
There are several safety resources available to foster a vibrant Downtown community. ODID partners with the Omaha Police Department and our private contract security firm to best educate the public on trends and prevention.

Every year the ODID hosts several security forums; one for Downtown residents and one for Downtown businesses. The forums feature presentations by the Police Department, Fire Department, and our private security give updates and answer questions and the ODID reports about what they are doing to keep Downtown safe. The resident’s forum usually focuses on personal safety tips and how to react to urban safety concerns. The business forum usually focuses on hot topics that year such as hospitality responsibilities or human trafficking. Lots of great discussions and answers are addressed at these forums.
Personal Defense Classes
The ODID will be working to provide personal defense classes during the summer and fall. Learn how to be extra self-aware and what to do if you were ever in a situation you needed to get out of. Check back for more info on when and where the classes will be held.
