Human Trafficking Signs

With the huge summer event crowds filling our neighborhood and enjoying the fun, we all need to stay aware and report anything that looks out of the ordinary. At our May Business Security Forum, we learned about human trafficking from the Women’s Fund.

Signs Someone May Be A Trafficking Victim:
  • Sudden or dramatic change in behavior
  • Disconnected from family, friends, community organizations
  • Difficulty focusing, persistent fear, depression and/or anxiety
  • Evidence of being controlled (rarely alone, cannot speak for themselves)
  • Physical harm (bruises, scars, untreated illness)
  • Expressed fear to leave employer
  • Not in possession of personal identification and/or personal items
  • Tattoos that appear possessive (bar codes)
  • May be in possession of excessive amounts of cash, hotel key cards and cell phones
  • School age but not in school during the school year
Together, we can stop trafficking in our communities. If you suspect someone is a victim or a perpetrator, call the National Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888 or, in an emergency, call 911.
