OMAHA'S HOLIDAY LIGHTS FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD IN THE OLD MARKET THIS YEAR

This year's Holiday Lights Festival will be held in the Old Market and surrounding streets, officials announced Tuesday.

The downtown lighting display, which is set up from mid-November through New Year's Eve, had been in the Gene Leahy Mall for years, but construction in the mall has forced the move to the Old Market.

The lights will be displayed from 10th to 13th Streets and from Harney to Jackson Streets, officials said.

This year, a Family Festival will be held Dec. 1. A list of participating venues still is being finalized, but past festivals have included activities at the Omaha Children’s Museum, Omaha Police Department Horse Barn, the Durham Museum, the W. Dale Clark Public Library and Joslyn Art Museum.

  • The New Year’s Eve fireworks show will be held in Lot B near the CHI Health Center.
  • Sounds of the Season will be held in the Old Market on Saturday evenings from mid-November through December, featuring performances by area choral groups and musicians.
  • The Capitol District Ice Rink will be set up again this year. A portion of the admission fee will benefit the Food Bank for the Heartland.
  • A Thanksgiving evening lighting ceremony will not be held this year.
