2019 Highlights of the Downtown Improvement District
General
- Redesigned a new mobile-friendly website at OmahaDowntown.org plus new program photos
- Ambassadors stationed at Capitol District during the summer
- New branding on dog waste stations and cigarette towers
- Sidewalk Informational Campaign
- Added Old Market Association & Downtown Omaha Inc ex-officio seats to the Board
Clean
- Purchased snow plow for mule
- Working within 3 zones which include Old Market zone, Southwest & 16th Street zone, North zone which is allowing team to cover more and focus on specific hot spots that collect more trash than others
- Snow removal from plow mounds within pedestrian crosswalks
- Introduced some new “green” tools – electric and less noisy
- 7 new dog waste stations
- Extra cleanup runs on 16th Street corridor during major performances at Orpheum
Green
- 17 new trees planted
- 8 tree stumps grind and removed
- New Blue Heaven Little Bluestem Grasses planted
- 9 planter guards installed
Safe
- Added Monday to Wednesday Lion’s Gate security patrols – coverage 7-days a week
- During the month of June – added 4 off-duty police officers plus doubled our Lion’s Gate officers
- Pilot program of adding patrols to 16th street corridor during major performances at Orpheum
- Focused Business Security forum on Human Trafficking
- Focused Resident Security forum on Self-Defense
Foundation
- $12,500 grant from Douglas County Visitors Fund for alley improvement
- Raised $920 during Omaha Gives Day
- Worked with Sunflower Nonprofit Solutions to identify possible grant opportunities
